INTRODUCTION:
Haptic Technology is a technology of adding a sensation of touch and feeling to the computer or any kind of device. A haptic device gives people a sense of contact with the computer environment so that when virtual objects are touched they seem real and tangible. Haptic sense links to the brain’s sensing position and movement of the body through sensory nerves within the muscles.
For simplicity remember the virtual games or the virtual movies where we can feel as if they are real.
HISTORY OF HAPTIC TECHNOLOGY
The history of Haptic Technology is interesting. In the 1990s A new usage of the word haptics began to emerge and by the 70’sand 80s research effort in a completely different field, robotics also began to focus on the manipulation and perception by the touch building a dexterous robotic hand. Scientists used the term haptic to label their studies' subfield that addresses human touch-based perception and manipulation.
PRINCIPLE OF HAPTIC TECHNOLOGY
Interaction occurs at an interactive tool that mechanically couples two controlled two dynamical systems
- Haptic interface with computer
- Haptic user with a central nervous system
As we can be cleared from the following flowchart about how the haptic works. Aside from using a combined force, vibration, and motion, haptic technologies use a force feedback loop to manipulate the user's movement and go beyond a simple vibration alert. The basic principle of the haptic sensor is the generation of the electric current that drives a response to create a vibration.
Let me simplify from the figure too a touch screen controller sends a trigger signal to MCU or processor when a press is detected either using a finger or hand then the touch events triggers the MCU or the processor so that it can generate the waveform as shown. This waveform is given as input to the driver IC which runs the vibrator. The waveform causes the actuator to move in a specific direction or pattern to create the vibration. Hence the user will feel the sense of the touch.
TYPES OF HAPTIC
- PHANTOM;
IT PROVIDES A 3D TOUCH TO THE VIRTUAL OBJECT.
IT provide 6D.O.F(degree of freedom 0
When the user moves his finger, he could feel the shape and size of the virtual 3D object that has already been programmed.
3dimensional space in which the phantom operates is called the haptic scene.
- Cyber GRASP
THE CYBER GRASP SYSTEM FIT OVER THE USER’S entire hand like an exoskeleton and odd resistive force feedback to each figure. Allow 4D.O.F. for each figure. Adapt to different sizes of fingers. It is located on the back of the hands
ADVANTAGES OF HAPTIC
1. working time is reduced
2. medical application; use of central workstation from which surgeons would perform operations in various locations; machine setup and patient preparation performed by local nursing staff.
3. digital world can be experienced and perceived
4. easily accessible and user-friendly.
DISADVANTAGE OF HAPTIC TECHNOLOGY;
- Large weight and size of the haptic devices
- Debugging issues
- High cost and needs highly specialized scholars.
- It has finite resolution.
THE FUTURE VISION OF HAPTIC TECHNOLOGY
We all have heard about the hologram and have learned about this in our 1st sem engineering physic. so the holography interaction is supposed to be the first vision. the feedback allows the user to interact with a hologram and receives the tactile using acoustics radiation pressure.
CONCLUSION
- Continued implementation of tactile devices to aid people with disability will advance future
- Currently limited consumer
- Future generations of mobile devices and games console accessories will implement more haptic feedback
- Perhaps also in desktop computers and laptops.

It's awesome and very interesting, it's costly but to be precise it's risky also...hope this will reach nepali market soon.
